Ekphrasis

‘Ekphrasis’ means a literary description of, or commentary on, a visual work of art. Nita Jawary has been exploring this literary device in relation to four artworks in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria.

Bruised peaches (2018) from the Still Life Studio series 2018 Petrina HICKS, NGV Collection
Three cabbages (1977) William Delafield COOK, NGV Collection
The melon (c. 1880) Édouard MANET, NGV Collection
Will it ever work (2011) David HOCKNEY, NGV Collection

Thank you, Nita, for your lovely musings on art.

Thank you Nita, for a poetic way of looking at these artworks. It helps us to focus on details we may have overlooked. For me it was the reflection on the phone in the Hockney print.
